The external power supply is a good choice if you prefer not to use the old original Brother power adapter anymore.
It is also very helpful if your knitting machine was made for a different country:
✅ Japanese machine used in Europe
Japanese machines run on 100V, but Europe uses 230V.
With the external power supply, you don’t need an extra heavy voltage converter.
✅ European machine used in the USA
European machines run on 230V, but the USA uses 110V.
With the external power supply, you can also avoid using a voltage converter.
Cable you can use:
Example (Europa): MEAN WELL GST60A12-P1J
Example (USA): MEAN WELL GST60A12-P1J 12V 5 Amp 60W
External Power Supply Requirements (Important)
If you use a different power supply than the one we tested, make sure it has:
- 12V DC output (required for eKnitter)
- 3A or 5A power capacity
- Center-positive polarity
(center pin +, outer sleeve − — wrong polarity can damage the board) - DC barrel plug size: 5.5mm outer / 2.1mm inner diameter
- Local AC compatibility:
works with your wall voltage (220–240V EU or 120V US) and converts it to 12V DC
Internal vs External Power (Jumper Setting)
You can choose the power source with the jumper on the eKnitter board:
- JP2 = Internal power
- JP1 = External power
⚠️ The jumper must always be set to one of these positions.
If you’re not sure what a jumper is or how to move it, please watch the short video below:
