I have a Japanese Brother machine, but I live in a 230V country. Do I still need a step-down transformer? +
No — not if you power eKnitter with an external 12V DC power supply.
In that setup, eKnitter is powered by its own 12V DC supply and does not depend on the original Brother mains voltage. That means you do not need a heavy step-down transformer for the eKnitter electronics.
This is especially helpful if you own a Japanese Brother machine made for 100V and live in Europe or another 220–240V country.
I have a European Brother machine, but I live in the USA. Do I need a step-up transformer? +
No — as long as you use an external 12V DC power supply with eKnitter.
The external power supply powers the eKnitter electronics directly with 12V DC. This means the original 230V Brother power requirement is no longer needed for eKnitter.
This is helpful if you have a European Brother machine made for 230V and live in the USA or another 110–120V country.
Can I use an external power supply with eKnitter? +
Yes. eKnitter can be powered with an external 12V DC power supply instead of using the original Brother internal power supply.
This option is interesting for anyone who does not want to rely on the original Brother power supply anymore. It is also very useful when the voltage of your machine does not match the country you live in.
- Japanese Brother machine, 100V, used in a 230V country: no heavy step-down transformer needed for eKnitter.
- European Brother machine, 230V, used in the USA or another 110–120V country: no step-up transformer needed for eKnitter.
- Useful if you prefer a modern external power option instead of the original Brother supply.
What external power supply do I need? +
If you use an external power supply, please check the label and plug carefully before connecting it to eKnitter. The power supply must match the following requirements.
Do you ship to my country? +
We ship to all countries that are available to select during checkout.
If your country is not listed, please contact us. We can check whether shipping is possible for your location.
Will there be an eKnitter for KH 270? +
We are interested in the Brother KH 270, but there is no release timeline yet.
First, we need to study the machine carefully and understand what is required to make a board that fits and works perfectly.
The KH 270 is a special machine, and we do not want to rush the development. We want to make sure that the result feels reliable, clean, and truly useful for knitters.
Is Wi-Fi secure for pattern transmission? +
Yes. Your pattern is transferred over Wi-Fi and stored directly on the eKnitter board before knitting begins.
Once the pattern is on the board, knitting can continue even if your computer, tablet, or phone disconnects. No constant connection is needed while you knit.
Do I need experience with the Brother KH 910? +
Basic Brother knitting knowledge is helpful, because the mechanical knitting process stays the same.
eKnitter changes how patterns are loaded. Instead of using the old electronics workflow, you can transfer digital patterns such as PNG files by Wi-Fi.
For best results, we still recommend reading the original Brother knitting instructions for your machine.
What patterns can I use with eKnitter? +
eKnitter works with standard PNG pattern files up to 200 pixels wide, matching the 200 needles of the machine. You can use long patterns with many rows, so you are not limited to small repeats.
eKnitter also supports official Brother pattern files from models such as KH 910, KH 930, KH 965, and more. That means you can start with proven Brother designs and also create your own.
- Stitch Fiddle — create knitting charts online on Mac or Windows.
- KnittingChart — create charts on iPad and export them for your workflow.
- PNG files — use any design software that can export clean pattern images.
What is the WebApp? +
The eKnitter WebApp is a browser-based interface created by the eKnitter board itself. It works on Mac, Windows, iPad, iPhone, Android tablets, and many modern devices with a browser.
You can use it to load patterns, view your design, and prepare your knitting without installing old software or connecting special cables.
Who gets access to the WebApp? +
All eKnitter users have access to the WebApp.
If you already own an eKnitter, update your device firmware to version 5.27 or newer to start using it.
Why choose eKnitter? +
eKnitter was built for people who want a simple, reliable, and secure upgrade for their Brother knitting machine — without coding, soldering, or guessing.
The board fits inside the machine and keeps the classic look. The visible changes are the screen and the new button functions.
It brings modern Wi-Fi pattern transfer to a classic machine while keeping the knitting experience familiar.
