The grey row indicates when you need to knit with K and KC turned on. Since this grey row is only a helper row, set this colour to Mute so that no needles are selected.
If the knit carriage (K) is parked on the left side, the lace carriage must start from the right side, on the opposite side. See the PDF instructions for details.

Lace carriage starts on the left and ends on the left.
