Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)#

I have a Japanese Brother machine (100V), but I live in a 230V country. Do I still need a step-down transformer?

No — but only if you power the eKnitter with an external 12V DC power supply. In that case, you’re no longer using the machine’s original power — so the step-down transformer is not needed.

Note: The external power supply is not included with eKnitter. Full details are available on our website.

I have a European Brother machine (230V), but I live in the USA (110V). Do I need a step-up transformer?

No — as long as you use an external 12V DC power supply with the eKnitter. It replaces the machine’s original voltage requirements, so a step-up transformer isn’t necessary.

Note: The external power supply is not included with eKnitter. Full details are available on our website.

Do you ship to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand?

yes

What Do I Need to Use eKnitter for KH910?

To use eKnitter KH910, you need a Brother KH 910 knitting machine in mechanically working condition. The original electronics do not need to be functional, as eKnitter completely replaces the mainboard.

When will eKnitter for KH 930 be availbe?

Sales from the KH 910 will help fund the development and certification of the eKnitter board for the KH 930, which is already well advanced.

Is Wi-Fi secure for pattern transmission?

Yes. Your pattern is securely transferred over Wi-Fi and then stored directly on the eKnitter board. Even if the connection drops, your knitting continues uninterrupted—no connection worries.

Do I Need Experience with the Brother KH 910?

The knitting process remains unchanged, as the machine’s mechanical functionality stays the same. We recommend reviewing the machine’s knitting instructions for best results. The only difference is how patterns are loaded—eKnitter allows you to easily transfer digital patterns (PNG files) from a computer via Wi-Fi.

What patterns can I use with eKnitter?

eKnitter is fully compatible with standard PNG pattern files—up to 200 pixels wide (200 needles) and unlimited rows, giving you the freedom to knit just about anything.

We’ve also built in support for official Brother pattern files from models like the KH 910, KH 930, KH 965, and more—so you can get started right away with proven designs.

You can create your own patterns using any software that exports PNG files. eKnitter works great with:

  • Stitch Fiddle (Web – Windows/Mac)
Design patterns online and integrate them directly into your eKnitter workflow.
  • KnittingChart (iOS app)
Create charts on your iPad and easily load them into eKnitter.

We built eKnitter for people who want a simple, secure, and reliable upgrade for their knitting machine—without missing out on any features. No coding, no soldering, no guesswork. Just plug it in and start creating.

We’re always working to make eKnitter even better. Right now, it fits perfectly inside your knitting machine—so well that you can barely see it. The only visible changes are the screen and the changed button functions.

One big advantage of this design is the built-in WiFi, which works smoothly without extra parts or setup.

We’ve also made sure that every eKnitter board is equipped with more technique than it currently needs, so it’s ready for future developments/firmware updates.

What Is the WebApp?

The WebApp is a standalone alternative to the open source software.

  • The WebApp is a webpage created by the eKnitter mainboard.
  • After updating your firmware, you will be able to use the WebApp.
  • It allows you to operate your knitting machine from any device, including Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS.
  • More details will be revealed once the WebApp is fully standalone.

Who Gets Access to the WebApp?

All eKnitter customers will receive free download to the WebApp. We will notify users via email and on our website when the new firmware version is available for download.

Flexible Power Options

You can power eKnitter KH 910 using the original Brother internal power supply or an external power supply. If you choose an external power supply, please ensure it meets our recommended specifications.
